Spring News

A lovely warm and sunny weekend marked the official start of spring and there are plenty of signs of spring at the nursery. Many of the early flowering plants like Pulmonaria and Brunnera are in full bloom, and every time I walk around there seems to be something new emerging after the winter dormancy, epimediums, astilbes and even now some hostas.
Our Open Day is looming. It is always on the second Saturday in May, so this year will be on the 9th. We offer a 10% discount on all plant sales, provide light refreshments and have some live music to add that little bit extra to the day. This year we have a professional chef coming to do some demonstrations of how to use fresh herbs in cooking and with some activities for young people we hope there will be something for all the family.
If you have been to our Open Day in the past and have comments or suggestions about the event please do let us know by replying to this blog – thank you.

The Harrogate Show

We have had a very busy summer and in July we were very pleased to be awarded a Large Gold Medal for our display at the Driffield Show. We also won the cup for the second year running for the Best Trade Exhibit.
We are now preparing another display for the Harrogate Show on the 18th - 20th September. The standard expected at Harrogate is very high, similar to that at Chelsea. However we will do the best we can and look forward to taking part in this event.

Back at the Nursery we have our September Sale running from Monday 21st - Saturday 26th. A good number of plants will be available at half the normal price and other special offers. We look forward to seeing you here. When you come you will also see the progress being made on our new building.

Radio 4 Gardeners Question Time

It was a pleasure to welcome Bob Flowerdew to Mires Beck Nursery a week ago to record a piece for Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time. The panel were the guests of the Leven and Brandesburton Horticultural Society and Bob came to Mires Beck to talk with Judy Burrow our Wildflower Project Officer about the wide range of wildflowers of Yorkshire Provenance grown at the nursery. Go to 'Our Plants' and then 'Retail Customers' to use our search facility to find out more about our wildflowers.
