16 Days of Activism at Mires Beck

The 16 Days of Activism runs from International Day Against Violence Against Women (25th November) to International Human Rights Day (10th December). It was launched by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) in 1991 and has been used globally to spread awareness of gender-based violence.

Mencap are a charity who also join in with Activism Week. However, they are celebrating it the 19th-23rd October 2020 with their hashtag #ClearCovidCommunication. They are spreading awareness that people with learning difficulties may not be able to understand what the politics are saying, as they are using jargon words to explain what is happening.
At Mires Beck, we have been collaborating with the local councils and writing to MPs to try to safely reopen the service for our users. Although we have been doing this ahead of the 16 Days of Activism campaign week, we will continue to work closely with families and the councils, for our service users' voices to be heard.

To join in with this campaign, we are making our own brown ribbon to symbolise the importance of horticultural therapy to our service users. So many schools have been reopened to so many children, but our service users have been left out. While we understand that they are very vulnerable, they are missing out on their education and their friends.
The staff and volunteers will wear the ribbon in support of the many parents who have felt without choice during the pandemic for their dependants right to attend their horticultural education in the communities they depend on.

Please donate to our Just Giving page to help fund the work Mires Beck does to support the Learning Disability Community.
All projects require fundraising and we are always looking for new sponsors and volunteers to help us realise the future aspirations to maintain the charity and help it to thrive. If you would like to help please contact us.
