Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month
A Fresh June
To kick start the month of June we begin to celebrate National Fruit and Vegetable month. June is the perfect time to celebrate this as the growing season is in full mode with fresh fruit and vegetables being produced locally like here at Mires Beck. Our goal is to help you to increase your daily consumption of fresh produce.
Our Story
2020 is the year that we decided expand the growing of our own fresh fruit and vegetables that we know you and your family will love to eat. With the help from our volunteers, we were able to get started. We saw growing our own fruit and vegetables as the perfect opportunity to help our service users widen their horticultural knowledge as well influence them with a healthier lifestyle- which we hope to also do with you at home.
No matter the size of your garden, it can be easy to grow your own from home. For example: you could grow your strawberries from a container, or your vegetables can be grown in a wooden planter. If your fruit and vegetables are planted in the correct soil that they need and they can receive plenty of sunlight, you will be able to create your own fruit and vegetable garden from your own home.
Add some colour to your plate
Fruit and vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals. These are an excellent source of dietary fibre which can help you to maintain a healthy gut.
