World Mental Health Day at Mires Beck

Every year on 10th October, World Mental Health Day is globally spread to raise awareness of mental health and the effects of it.
Mental health is so important to talk about right now because of the toll it has taken from COVID-19.

We are focussing this day on how the nursery is supporting green social prescribing.

What Is Green Social Prescribing?

Green Social Prescribing is a new way that doctors’ surgeries are starting to prescribe non-medicated early intervention methods to their mental health patients. Referrals within the practise will highlight to patients where they could volunteer in community programmes, such as in green spaces with projects available for people to engage in. The work at Mires Beck Nursery helps improve their mental wellbeing by experiencing social therapeutic horticulture and also teaches people new skills.

What Is Mires Beck Doing Towards This?

Recently, we have been working with the Hey Smile Foundation to spread the awareness that Mires Beck Nursery is the perfect place to improve your wellbeing. In my role as the Communications and Marketing Apprentice for Mires Beck, I have had the privilege to make a video for the Humber Coast and Vale Green Social Prescribing Programme, which includes the volunteers explaining how much they love working at Mires Beck, and how it has improved their lives.

Please donate to our charity to enable us to buy the equipment and resources to take on many more green socially prescribed volunteers.
All projects require fundraising and we are always looking for new sponsors and volunteers to help us realise the future aspirations to maintain the charity and help it to thrive. If you would like to help please contact us.
