National Gardening Week at Mires Beck

This year's theme for National Gardening Week is to ‘Support Your Local Gardens’.

It is a great way for families to spend quality time together, find communities/local gardening clubs to join and learn more skills. This is the opportunity to brighten up our unsettled start to the year, and to improve our wellbeing by doing some satisfying gardening in beautiful outdoor spaces.
Mires Beck Nursery is a North Cave horticultural nursery with many opportunities for our local community, which stretches northwards beyond Market Weighton and eastwards towards Brough and Hessle in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We regularly put out Facebook posts to ask people to volunteer on our site to do lots of exciting and satisfying gardening tasks, such as weeding, watering, and maintaining our plants and vegetables. We welcome any enquiries to be introduced to the nursery projects during National Gardening Week, and perhaps you will love our wonderful 14-acre tranquil site and choose to come regularly.

We are also currently working on our brand new City of Sanctuary Garden to welcome refugees from their journeys across to the UK, and to win the award for a The Hull City of Sanctuary Garden Award. Alice our Gardening Team leader and Gary who has been with us many years, have been working extremely hard on this garden, and it is nearly time to plant up a range of tropical plants from the travels and origins of refugees. The garden will highlight food plant migration and origins. This is an exciting project for any refugees and asylum seekers within our community to get involved with. Please contact jess@miresbeck.co.uk.

We have also planted a wonderful new Rose Garden in collaboration with AS Apothercary and is a beautiful space to help us establish if you love roses.

For us to provide more tools and equipment, keep producing plants for retail, and to continue our on-going development projects, please donate to us.
All projects require fundraising and we are always looking for new sponsors and volunteers to help us realise the future aspirations to maintain the charity and help it to thrive. If you would like to help please contact us.
