Open up your garden
Why promote your garden?
One of the fundraising events that our community love to host is an Open Garden. This gives you the opportunity to show off your amazing garden as well as raise money for Mires Beck Nursery. To do so, you can charge a ticket price, sell baked goods and teas and coffees, or even sell some homemade crafts whilst showing your garden.
Being out in your garden has been proven to be massively beneficial to your mental wellbeing. Being surrounded by plants can: boost your air quality, promote exercise, encourage healthy eating, decreases risk of illness, improves mood, relieves stress and anxiety, prolongs attention span, and can boost your self-esteem. So go enjoy the summer sun as you plant a new garden.
2020 Trends
Back to the 80s. Eighties favourites such as Rudbeckias, Lupins, Dahlia, and Heuchera all of which we sell here at Mires Beck Nursery. These plants are best sellers for 2020 due to being bushy plants that produce bright colours. These plants are a love for wildlife like butterflies and bumblebees.
Bold colour. When it comes to use of colour in your gardens, the brighter the better for 2020. Your garden should reflect your personal taste, just as much as any other part of your home does. This summer is set to see the return of bold blooms full of riotous colour! Pick shades that complement one another and group complementary colours together: reds, yellows and oranges, whites and blues, and purples and pinks.
Wild and perennial meadow gardens. There is a surge to take gardens back to a more natural state. The good news is you do not need a large plot to incorporate one into your garden. This wilder style has been helped along by the increasing use of instant wildflower meadows. You can create this look using herbaceous perennials and grasses that have a more permanent structure, helped by the increasing use of shrubs in planting borders.
National Garden Scheme (NGS)
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,700 exceptional private gardens in England and Wales, and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
In line with the government guidance and to ensure the safety of their vsitors and volunteers, NGS have limited the number of people they can welcome at one time, so you'll need to pre-book your tickets at: www.ngs.org.uk/garden-tickets
They are releasing new tickets every monday so check out their website regularly to find out which gardens are opening and when.
